The vgbe Conference Maintenance in Power Plants opened this morning with around 170 participants from Germany and abroad. In the wake of the energy crisis, the overarching issue of security of supply and the need to bring fossil-fuelled power plants that have already been shut down back onto the market has also put maintenance into even sharper focus.

In his opening speech, Dr Georgios Stamatelopoulos, COO Generation & Trading EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG and vgbe Board Chairman on the “Situation of the German and European energy industry and future challenges” shed light on current energy policy. The vgbe Chairman explained that the political goals with regard to the massive expansion of renewables and the market ramp-up of hydrogen were technically feasible with the corresponding political framework conditions, such as designation of suitable areas, accelerated approvals, etc. Gas will continue to serve as bridging technology to balance the feed-in of fluctuating renewables and will be replaced in future by hydrogen, which can be used in existing gas-fired power plants, according to the vgbe board. This situation also gives rise to maintenance decisions for the near future, which will be discussed at expert level at this vgbe event.
The lecture programme will be rounded off by a trade exhibition.
