Compliance with the Paris climate targets, the European Green Deal and thus the transformation of the economy and society towards a climate-neutral energy supply are among the tasks that vgbe and its members are working on vigoursly. These goals can only be achieved by decarbonising energy supply, i.e. massive expansion of renewables, rapid ramp-up of a green hydrogen economy, sector coupling and storage are just some of the issues to be mentioned in this context.
The vgbe community is aware of its responsibility and has been working on these topics for years, which are bundled in the vgbe Technical Competence Centre “Future Energy System” (TCC FES) and dealt with in the associated committees:
- TC Future Technologies
- TC Hydrogen
- TC Photovoltaics
- TC Biomethane
The new technical management underlines the importance of the Technical Competence Centre. The topics will be coordinated, further expanded ad the strategy adapted and further developed. In addition, Sebastian Zimmerling is the “face of FES” and the contact person for the vgbe community and all those interested in the topic of FES.
In Sebastian Zimmerling, who took over his new role on November 1, 2023, vgbe has gained a proven expert.
After studying disposal technology with a focus on process engineering at Gelsenkirchen University of Applied Sciences and holding various professional positions in process engineering, Sebastian Zimmerling joined vgbe in 2011 as a consultant for biomass, biogas, fire and explosion protection.
In 2022, his area of responsibility was expanded to include hydrogen and biomethane. As part of his expanded activities, Sebastian Zimmerling has acquired additional qualifications as hydrogen network engineer (FH Münster/GWI) and basic expertise in hydrogen technology (KWS Energy Knowledge eG).
This provides vgbe with a competent contact person who, together with his colleagues Dipl.-Ing. Doreen Kückelmann, Lee Estrellado (M. Sc.) and Agnes Göritz as well as vgbe’s internal, interdisciplinary working group H2@vgbe, will further develop the topics relating to the Future Energy System and provide innovative impetus.
