vgbe energy is expanding its technical portfolio and investing in the state-of-the-art inspection drone Elios 3 from the manufacturer Flyability. This opens up new possibilities for efficiently and precisely inspecting plant components, even in confined, hazardous, or previously hard-to-access areas. To fully exploit the potential of this technology, the vgbe team completed an intensive one-week training course at the manufacturer¿s facilities in Switzerland. The aim was to further deepen safe and professional operation of the drone.

With the Elios 3, 3D scans can be created and high-resolution images and videos captured, which can be analysed directly by vgbe experts. This provides detailed insights for condition assessments, quality assurance, and damage analyses. In addition, the integrated UT system enables wall thickness measurements.

Limitations caused by short inspection times due to restricted battery life are a thing of the past thanks to the tether system used. This allows for unlimited flight time and is therefore ideal for longer and more complex inspections in confined or enclosed spaces. Dr. Christian Ullrich, Managing Director of vgbe energy service GmbH, emphasises: “With this investment, we combine our power plant expertise with state-of-the-art inspection technology – another step toward supporting our members in a practical, efficient, and future-oriented manner.”
