Flexible operation of thermal power plants – vgbe and members support a study trip by an Indian delegation

An Indian delegation with representatives of the largest state-owned power producer NTPC visited Germany in November 2023.

An Indian delegation with representatives of the largest state-owned power producer NTPC visited Germany from 20 to 30 November 2023. The participants wanted to learn about German experiences in adapting thermal power plants to the fluctuating feed-in of renewable energies and the latest technologies in the energy transition. Together with the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the Indian Excellence Enhancement Center (EEC), the vgbe played a key role in designing the study trip program.

STEAG Power plant Walsum, Germany

The program for the first part of the study trip included visits to the Walsum and Niederaussem power plants as well as exchanges with experts. Various workshops were held for this purpose, in which representatives from RWE, STEAG, TÜV Rheinland, Uniper and vgbe reported on their experiences in the flexible operation of coal-fired power plants. The great interest of the Indian delegation members was particularly evident in the intensive discussions.

Another highlight was the two-day simulator training at KWS Energy Knowledge eG. Here the guests from India were able to become active themselves and try out various flexible operating methods and starts on their own. The second part of the study trip took place in Berlin and Brandenburg. The focus here was on innovative concepts for energy storage and self-sufficient energy supply.
