With the formation of the new Technical Committee “Battery Energy Storage Systems” (TC BESS), located within the Technical Competence Center “Future Energy System” (TCC FES), vgbe energy is pooling expertise on battery storage systems.
The kick-off meeting of the new Technical Committee “Battery Energy Storage Systems” (TC BESS) took place on October 7, 2025 with broad participation from numerous vgbe member companies. The committee promotes exchange on topics such as safety, quality, grid integration and operation of BESS installations. It provides a platform for harmonising and developing standards as well as jointly advancing innovation in the field of energy storage.
The committee’s key areas of focus include safety and compliance, quality assurance, grid connection and system integration, as well as engineering and project development. Further priorities include operation and maintenance, along with strategic and market-related aspects such as hybrid power plants, black-start capability and new storage technologies beyond lithium-ion.
