Steering Committee set up for the vgbe Technical Programme “Materials Safety for the Hydrogen Economy“

TP lays the foundation for innovative developments in the industry

On November 13, 2024, the kick-off meeting for the vgbe Technical Programme “Material Safety for the Hydrogen Economy” was held, bringing together representatives from the energy and materials sectors, including RWE, Siemens Energy, Uniper, Fraunhofer IWM, CEZ, LEAG, Deloro Wear Solutions GmbH, and Onyx Power. In this inaugural session of the Steering Committee, Fabian Unterumsberger (RWE) was elected chairman, assuming strategic leadership of the programme.

During the meeting, an updated roadmap was presented that defines the core areas for the coming years. The following key topics were identified:

  • Storage and infrastructure
  • Thermal utilisation
  • Hydrogen production

This structure ensures that both technical and regulatory challenges are comprehensively addressed. Special emphasis is placed on material safety, which is critical for the safe and sustainable use of hydrogen in the energy sector.

The kick-off meeting marks the beginning of a promising collaboration to promote innovative and safe solutions for the hydrogen economy. In the next steps, the roadmap will be developed in further detail, and close cooperation between companies and research institutions will be sought. Based on this roadmap, various research projects will be initiated to strengthen the hydrogen economy.

With this programme, the participating partners are creating a solid foundation for the expansion of the hydrogen economy and are jointly committed to the development of future-proof technologies.
