vgbe factsheet “H2 readiness for gas turbine plants” published

Technical, economic and regulatory challenges for hydrogen use in gas turbines are detailed

The vgbe energy e.V. represents the operators of plants for the energetic use of hydrogen. In addition to the H2-Ready position paper, the factsheet: “H2-Readiness for Gas Turbine Plants” contains further information on the energetic use of hydrogen in gas turbine plants. This includes the technical, economic, and regulatory challenges that operators have identified in using hydrogen from gas turbine plants.

In assessing H2 readiness, the following subsystems are considered, taking into account the H2 readiness development stages (L0-L3):

  • Gas distribution
  • Fuel gas system between gas feed, compressor, mixer, fuel gas block to fuel quick-acting valve (SSV)
  • Combustion system and gas turbine
  • Exhaust gas system including waste heat steam generator
  • I&C and machine protection
  • Fire and explosion protection
  • Retrofit of existing plants
  • Approval procedures, emissions, etc.

The factsheet is designed to guide plant operators in implementing retrofit or new construction projects.

In addition to the H2-Ready position paper, the factsheet “H2-readiness for gas turbine plants” provides further information on the use of hydrogen in gas turbine plants.

It shows which technical, economic and regulatory challenges exist in detail for the energetic use of hydrogen from the point of view of the operators of gas turbine plants.
