An Indian delegation visited Germany from 2 to 9 November 2025 in order to learn more about the German approach for a flexible energy system. The delegation consisted of representatives from the Indian energy sector, including the Ministry of Power, Grid India, and Mahagenco. Together with the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the Indian Excellence Enhancement Center (EEC), the vgbe played a key role in designing the study trip program.

Thermal power plants, repurposing, and storage

The focus was on the flexible operation of thermal power plants, which in India is going to play a key role in the effective grid integration of variable renewables.

The tour program included visits to the RWE Innovation Center at the Niederaußem power plant, the Trianel combined cycle power plant in Hamm, the RWE pumped storage power plant in Herdecke, simulator training at KWS Energy Knowledge eG, and workshops at Siemens Energy, Iqony, and vgbe. The keen interest of the Indian delegation members was particularly evident in the intensive discussions.
