Photovoltaics
As the demand for clean, sustainable energy grows, photovoltaics has emerged as a leading solution. By harnessing the power of the sun, PV technology converts sunlight into electricity, making it a crucial player in mitigating climate change. In Europe, solar energy, particularly PV, has experienced significant growth, making the continent a global leader in photovoltaic capacity and also research. Ambitious renewable energy targets and supportive policies have driven the development of solar installations. At the same time, questions relating to system integration and grid stability are increasingly coming to the forefront. In this diverse and dynamically growing industry, there are numerous challenges and topics on which experts need to regularly exchange ideas.
In the Technical Committee “Photovoltaics,” vgbe energy facilitates communication and expert exchange on its network platform for all issues relating to technology, operation and plant safety of energy generation plants. Using the extensive experience of vgbe energy and its network of industry experts, solutions to the various techno-economic, environmental and strategic challenges related to the installation and operation of PV systems will be developed.
Activities
- Developing new concepts to improve the operation, maintenance and performance
- Exchange on selection and design of structural and technical installations in PV plants
- Improving availability, reliability and safety
- Supporting cost-efficient lifetime and environmental management
- Supporting work in Digitalisation, IT and Cyber Security in the PV industry
- Initiate research projects on interesting up-and-coming topics (Agri-PV, Floating-PV, etc.)
- Service life and failure analysis
To support our members, we develop and operate various databases. These form the basis for improving safety standards in the energy industry and for conducting benchmarks.
In Photovoltaics, vgbe has developed the “Photovoltaics Fault & Failure Database – PVFF” to support member companies in sharing and tracking faults and failures with significant impacts on plant safety and performance.
To meet new challenges, vgbe energy offers collaborative research activities in which operators as well as manufacturers, universities, research institutes and the public sector pool their specific know-how and financial resources. This includes initiating and coordinating national and international research projects, building up know-how and knowledge.
vgbe energy with its leading role in understanding good and best practices in operation and development launches different Technical Programmes in cooperation with its members. These programmes are part of the comprehensive activities of vgbe energy for the future energy sector to support the daily work in operation, maintenance and plant optimisation as well as in techno-economic and environmental challenges. Therefore, the programmes are open for vgbe members as well as vgbe non-members.
The programmes can be carried out as a platform, industry-funded project, database, vgbe-Standard, or other agreed upon format.
vgbe energy organises topic-specific expert workshops for vgbe members only to foster exchange and problem-solving between experts at the highest technical level.
The Expert Workshops are planned by vgbe energy in cooperation with its members and cover a broad variety of applications that include established and emerging technologies for energy generation and storage. They can be organised on short notice and can therefore not only address pressing issues in the industry, but also be used proactively to find solutions to upcoming challenges. One key feature of the Expert Workshops is the policy of “give and take.” Therefore, active participation is required in order to take part.
General Presentation
vgbe energy | Photovoltaics as part of the Technical Competence Center “Future Energy System” is the first address for parties interested in techno-economic and ecological issues as well as in research and innovation topics concerning photovoltaics.
The platform offers operators the exchange and transfer of practice-oriented experience and best practice measures as well as know-how to improve and optimize operation and maintenance.
