vgbe is the technical association of energy plant operators. Our members operate power, heat and cooling plants as well as energy storage and sector coupling all around the world. We are committed to the goal of developing the economy and society in a climate-neutral and sustainable way. Our contribution is to demonstrate and actively shape the technical options required for environmentally friendly, safe and economical energy supply.
Our mission
As an independent technical competence centre and network, we support our international members in their respective business activities and in the implementation of innovations and strategic tasks. We are the voice of plant operators, and also actively and fact-based contribute to the political and social debate on technical issues. Cooperation with all partners along the energy value chain, especially with manufacturers and service providers, is an essential criterion. We are also the interational and central contact for all technical issues relating to the operation of energy plants.
Our role
We are committed to secure, cost-effective and environmentally friendly energy supply. The focus is on controllable generation and volatile generation from renewable energies as well as on energy storage and sector coupling. Since in the future energy system plant engineering will be simpler in many areas than before, but the overall system will be more complex, activities related to system integration will play a greater role in the vgbe portfolio of the future. On the way to a climate-friendly energy system, a balanced energy mix remains important – especially against the background that controllable generation is currently the most important flexibility option in the energy system.

In its White Paper “Being Part of the Future Energy System”, vgbe presents eight strategic fields of action enabling the implementation of sustainable, environmentally friendly, economic and secure energy supply. All players in the energy sector – from politics, business and society – are called upon to make their contributions to the implementation of these fields of action.
